NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. - Cataract Steel Industries, Inc. has received notification of approval of its South Korea (MKE) Pressure Vessel Certification, which allows the Company to export pressure vessels into South Korea. Cataract Steel is a worldwide leader in the design and manufacture of heat-exchange equipment across a host of industrial sectors.
"The Korean government is stringent in its certification process, and we are pleased to have again exceeded their safety and quality standards," said Scott Costanzo, president of Cataract Steel. "This code stamp allows us to continue serving that market with quality heat-exchange equipment."
The South Korea Ministry of Knowledge and Economy (MKE) certifies pressure vessels for import into that country. Since 2006, South Korea has regulated pressure vessels, heat exchangers and related equipment for quality and safety. The MKE utilizes many of the same standards as the ASME certification, as well as ISO policies and procedures. Cataract Steel was certified at that time, and is required to undergo re-certification every four years. Prior to 2008, the Korea Gas Safety Corporation/ Ministry of Commerce, Industry & Energy (KGS/MOCIE) handled the certification process. A restructuring of government agencies renamed the regulatory agency over pressure-vessel certification the Ministry of Knowledge and Economy. The new MKE certificate replaces Cataract Steel's previous KGS/MOCIE certification.
At Cataract Steel, we are focused on our customers' needs and solving their engineering problems," said Costanzo. "We currently carry ASME, Chinese and Korean Code Licenses to ensure that we can support our end users, no matter where they are in the world. Our extensive process and engineering knowledge - coupled with our vast manufacturing capabilities - is the reason we are the preferred vendor of many major users of shell & tube heat exchangers throughout the world."
